World Cancer Day 2022

From the daily work of cancer teams diagnosing and treating more people with cancer, to the collaborative translational research work between our pharmaceutical companies, clinicians and academics, all these efforts have resulted in 50% of UK people diagnosed with cancer surviving 10 years or more.

We also recognise that there is more work to be done in ensuring equal access to high quality cancer care for everyone affected by cancer. The BSIO fully supports the theme chosen by the Union for International Cancer Control, namely ‘Close the Care Gap’ and we endeavour to support the global efforts in advocating for equality in cancer care.

Our Society aims to bring together UK Oncology healthcare practitioners, whether in the NHS or private sector, including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, dieticians, nutritionists and other allied health professionals, to enhance their training and education in evidence-based Integrative Oncology. By engaging more Oncology professionals in the field of Integrative Oncology, we will ensure that more people with cancer, regardless of where they live in the UK, can benefit from Integrative approaches to cancer care, including nutrition, exercise, mind-body therapies, relaxation and lifestyle changes. With recent evidence showing that hospitals and clinics implementing Integrative Oncology programmes offer improved overall survival and quality of life for cancer patients, our mission is to reach out to more UK practitioners and catalyse positive change through the incorporation of Integrative Oncology approaches in our mainstream healthcare system.

To assist with our mission to provide timely and equitable Integrative Oncology in the UK, we work with other charitable organisations who share our purpose and reach out to diverse populations, including the US Society of Integrative Oncology, the UK Yes to Life and Penny Brohn UK.

We sincerely hope that you will join us in this very important mission of making Integrative Oncology accessible and affordable to more people with cancer in the UK who truly need it.
